Climbing gym
Face Nord in Mons
In 1996, ALPI-IN, a pioneer in artificial climbing structures whose founder was none other than Pierre D’haenens, the inventor of the pre-drilled plywood plate on a mobile structure, agreed to build a new climbing gym for his brother Robert, even though the company had not existed for several years. It was thanks to him that 10 years earlier the first climbing walls were built and gave legendary Belgian climbers such as Isabelle Dorsimond, Jean-Paul Finné, Arnould ‘t Kint,… the chance to become great champions.
Together with Jan Larosse, who withdrew from the project but owns the Alpamayo climbing gym in Beringen, Robert D’haenens was a co-founder of Face Nord. He chose materials and technical solutions, which were revolutionary at that time, for the construction of the climbing gym to which he would devote 26 years of his life. The aerated concrete insulation, underfloor heating and perfectly balanced daylight and artificial lighting make the building a hall where thermal and visual comfort are unrivalled in all seasons.
The bar and the relaxation area make it a cosy place to console oneself after effort.
